As ticket specialists for all Serie A, Coppa Italia and European fixtures at the Stadio Olimpico involving AS Roma and SS Lazio this season 2008-2009, we have total control over availability and procurement and our prices are second to none. We know exactly what kind of service our customers expect when they contact us for tickets. Please take a minute to scroll through recent customer feedback at the top of this page. Ordering tickets is easy, just complete the form below. Delivery to wherever you are staying in Rome the day before or a few days before the game is free.
** If you are comparing our prices with those listed on other websites, please be aware that once their processing fees and/or a delivery charge has been added to your ticket order, we offer far better value.
More importantly, they are in no position to offer you seats in a specific block and will sell you any space available, typically too high up in the stands with an inferior view, too low with an obstructed view or in a part of the Stadium that is unsafe. Safety is absolute priority in so far as we are concerned but not it seems for our competitors, who are invariably based outside Italy and know nothing about football culture here. We will always inform our customers about football in Rome on a daily basis as an adjunct to selling tickets, rather than offer a generic 'click here, pay now' service of which there are many.

The Lazio program ('Voce della Nord') is published by the Irriducibili and sold around the Stadio Olimpico for €2 or less if you buy a few. Italians make alot of noise which escalates when they watch football, the overwhelming din generates real atmosphere.
Football in Rome is as passionate as it is political. The blue half of the city was traditionally 'right wing' but these days you will find as much right as left in either Curva of either team. Italy is a police state and there are as many millions of communists as there are fascists who live well here, which has nothing to do with football. Roma and Lazio Ultras consider it 'hip' to be hooligan and the English disease has caught on big time, but their waving of pro-IRA flags alongside others bearing the cross of St. George is misguided at best. There is no doubt that some Ultras have got the wherewithal to co-ordinate colourful and creative support in their respective Curvas, the steady anglicisation of what they get up to on the terraces makes the big games in Rome unmissable - something always kicks off / updated: August 2007
Your ticket will be scanned and you'll be frisked by security at the gate if you're carrying a bag, but this is standard procedure.     Roma finished 2nd. and Lazio 12th. in a campaign dominated by Inter on the pitch and blighted by the Gabriele Sandri story off it. Sandri was sitting in a car with friends at a service station near Arezzo on their way to see Lazio v Inter on the morning of Sunday, November 11th. when a minor altercation between Lazio and travelling Juventus fans blew over within minutes. This being Italy warning shots were fired by the Police leaving Sandri dead and a country in shock. Rioting the length and breadth of the peninsula followed primarily due to the fact that the authorities regarded the slaughter of a Lazio fan insufficient reason to postpone Giornata 12. However, Atalanta Ultras stopped their game with Milan after 7 minutes by trying to smash through plexiglass to confront the players, officials and anyone else who stood in their way. Continuing indecision and incompetence that afternoon by the authorities resulted in violence in other cities to fuel the fire and by 18:00, television crews were on location and filming events around the Stadio Olimpico before Roma v Cagliari (a scheduled early evening kick off) which took the form of co-ordinated attacks against the Carabinieri by Ultras of both Roma and Lazio while fans were making their way to the game, which was eventually called off at very short notice. The streets close to Piazza Mancini and Ponte Duca D'Aosta were turned into a war zone littered with burning vehicles and smouldering debris. Every season Italian football seems to find itself embroiled in scandal or troubles of one sort or another but in so far as Rome is concerned now, Police presence has been greatly reduced and replaced by multilingual stewards. It is the visible presence of armed Police at football matches which serves to antagonize fans and spark confrontation. Facilities and seating are being upgraded this Summer to prepare for the UEFA Champions League Final here on Wednesday, May 27th. 2009.
The Scudetto was still up for grabs with 29 minutes to go on the final day. Parma had to beat Inter at home to cheat relegation and Roma win at Catania to have any chance of sneaking an unlikely 4th. title. Unfortunately Zlatan Ibrahimovic raised himself from the bench to net a decisive brace (62 & 79 minutes) and deflate the Giallorossi who were leading 1-0 in Sicily at the time. To add insult to injury, Martinez scored a late equalizer saving Catania from Serie B. Now that José Mourinho is at Inter with a list of former protégés set to join him, Luciano Spalletti will have his work cut out to get anywhere close this time around. At Milan it's addio with the old (Cafu 38, Serginho 37), in with the new (Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal and Marco Borriello back from Genoa with a point to prove as 3rd. top scorer in Serie A with a newly promoted team) and surely more to follow / Ronaldinho from Barcelona / Zambrotta from Barcelona / Shevchenko from Chelsea / Senderos from Arsenal / Beckham from Los Angeles Galaxy / updated: October 22nd. 2008 Ancelotti is desperate to improve on 5th. and his Rossoneri will have a tough UEFA Cup slog to contend with. Juventus have signed one of Serie A's form strikers in Amauri and will be up there challenging for Champions League and domestic honours after a commanding return to the top flight. Brazilian star Juan Silveira dos Santos was the pick of the new signings at Roma and he forged a formidable partnership with Philippe Mexes in defence, both of whom scored important goals. His compatriot Cicinho brought in from Real Madrid impressed when chosen ahead of Cassetti. Alberto Aquilani's playing time was reduced by injury, Vucinic scored 14 times in all competitions and Max Tonetto played a vintage season as first choice left back. Kolarov, Radu, Rozehnal and the return of Ousmane Dabo who was beaten senseless by team mate and thug Joey Barton while at Manchester City, were good acquisitions for Lazio. Stefan Radu has since been tracked by Manchester United. Stendardo was loaned out to Juventus after a spat with Delio Rossi, Lionel Scaloni returned to Spain and Real Mallorca after a thoroughly bland and mercifully brief stint in the Biancocelesti shirt and Bianchi breezed in on a wave of Sven-styled hype, only to score a handful of goals in four months. He has been told to return to Eastlands and never return. Lazio's home form disintegrated with six defeats, although an emotional 3-2 derby day victory sealed by Valon Behrami in added time repaired some, but by no means all the damage done. Rocchi and Pandev did not disappoint, scoring almost 40 goals between them but Delio Rossi's misfiring midfield charges must hit the target more often if the Biancocelesti are ever to challenge for honours ever again.

De Rossi doesn't miss Manchester
Roma made light work of 2nd. place in Group F, managing to hold Manchester United's reserves 1-1 in Matchday 6 which was a dead rubber fixture for Ferguson whereas for Luciano Spalletti the game was 'chance for revenge', even though both clubs had already qualified. In the event Gerard Pique scored early and the Giallorossi toiled for long periods. Trouble flared ahead of the game as predicted, 4 United fans were arrested then coerced by Police into agreeing that it would be absolutely fine for them to spend 5 months in prison for defending themselves from knives while under the influence. A brace of 2-1 wins over Real Madrid in the Last 16 had Spalletti dreaming of glory but when Roma had to face their nemesis in the Quarter Final for the 2nd. successive season, the dream evaporated. Too much was made of De Rossi's penalty miss at Old Trafford, United should have been 4-0 up (6-0 on aggregate) long before he lashed the ball into the Stretford End. Roma were already down and out after the First Leg when Edwin Van Der Sar's saves set United up to win on the break and at a canter in the latter stages. Lazio reached the Champions League proper by defeating Dinamo Bucuresti 4-2 on aggregate in the 3rd. Qualifying Round but despite beating Werder Bremen 2-1 and holding Real Madrid and Olimpiacos, they finished bottom of Group C. There will be no greater UEFA Champions League Final 2009 than AS Roma v Manchester United at the Stadio Olimpico so we're keeping our fingers crossed, as are the Ministero della Difesa. Mexes and Perrotta retained the Coppa Italia for Roma who defeated Inter 2-1 in the Final which was held here at the Stadio Olimpico, scant consolation if any at all after letting the Scudetto slip away. Slim hopes of a Roma Lazio Final were extinguished when the Biancocelesti were tarred and feathered by an Inter performance that for the most part would not have looked out of place in a boxing ring let alone a football pitch, 2-0 the result and end of a woeful season for Lazio. Roma will be looking to sign squad players to meet the demands of Champions League football and they must hang on to Alberto Aquilani when offers come in after the European Championships in Austria and Switzerland. Rocchi, Pandev, Ledesma, Radu, Kolarov, Manfredini, Meghni and De Silvestri apart, Lazio need to overhaul their entire squad and secure the Carrizo deal as soon as possible. If Valon Behrami and Gaby Mudingayi are to leave the club, so be it. If Lazio continue to play well below par for weeks on end in Serie A, we'll be selling tickets for Serie B sooner rather than later.
Livorno, Parma and Empoli were relegated. Chievo make an immediate return to the top flight after just one season in Serie B and are joined by Bologna and Lecce.

The stage was set for Mauro Zárate to entertain after a blistering Serie A debut - 4 goals in 3 games - and for Lazio to pick up the pieces after a heavy defeat in Milan. While he did not find the back of the net himself, Zárate's all-action show was enough for Cesare Prandelli to declare the game his worst ever in charge at Fiorentina. Not the case, more so that Lazio were superb and the Viola had no answer. When the Aquilotti string together a couple of wins, expectation goes through the roof and they simply dare not disappoint. Zauri made his return after forsaking Rome and club captaincy for the lure of Champions League football in Florence. However glamorous the idea when he signed up, Fiorentina will not progress beyond Group F preliminaries with Olimpique Lyonnaise and Bayern Munich in the zone. His former boss was able to field first choice defenders to put the mockers on Mutu and Gilardino, Gila for his part in the midst of a rich vein of form as impressive as that of Zárate. Pasquale Foggia headed over to the Curva Nord before kick off with yet another a bouquet of flowers for the Gabriele Sandri mural. After spurning chance after chance, Lazio joined the dots with a burst of goals just before the hour mark. Zauri had not played well but following his departure for Gianluca Comotto the shackles were off and the net bulging, Lazio's former captain back in the hutch enough to breach the Violan line, it seemed. For 50 minutes when the Biancocelesti were at their frustratingly scoreless best, albeit a spectacular post-Milan riposte, Pandev and Zárate resorted to kicking the post, fresh air and anything else but the ball in anger at their own profligacy and with the match in the balance, a Gilardino counter strike was never too far away. A spell of defensive disorder however put Lazio in command, they scored three times and had ample opportunity to embarrass Fiorentina before the referee decided enough was enough. Pandev was his effervescent self from the off and the Macedonian hitman raced through while Vargas was lost in space to hand Zárate the first of many chances which all ended up high, wide or well saved. Mauri's touch into space on the edge of the box resulted in a harmless drive over before Foggia and Mauri again combined well down the left channel to free Pandev into room enough to force Frey into an uncomfortable stop. Zauri was not having the best of times at right back and earned a deserved yellow for chopping down Stefano Mauri. Felipe Melo found himself with acres to spare after a sweeping move stretched Lazio but he was unable to hit the target before losing his bearings completely as a free kick rebounded back off him and almost landed in the net. Dario Dainelli and Vargas were at sixes and sevens whenever the ball reached Mauro Zárate who was clearly tripped by the former in the box but arbitro De Marco waved away penalty claims. The Argentine was cutting a swathe through to Frey and testing the busy keeper with an array of powerful shots. Goran Pandev's surging run from well inside his own half sent Zárate clear only for the luckless hotshot to misfire. He sent another easy chance over from Brocchi's untidy cross shot but when the goals did come, the visiting defence capitulated. Foggia was finding wide open spaces down the left channel and another deep cross met by Zárate's head crashed down off the underside of the bar for Stefano Mauri to acrobatically smash into the back of the net on the line. Moments later Zárate and Pandev weaved their magic through the Viola defence and there was no danger of Frey repelling Pandev's decisive strike. Zárate met Frey yet again after more good work by Foggia who responded with a fine cross for Sebastiano Siviglia to head home unchallenged. Zárate really should have doubled his Serie A goals tally in this fixture alone while Pandev, Mauri and Foggia were always a threat but Lazio wound down and played for the whistle long before time.

When Romanisti are not down on bended in knee in admiration of everything English, delusions of grandeur that sour whenever the very people they aspire to emulate come to Rome and are stabbed by knife-wielding numpties, the level of support they lavish upon their team can be a potent weapon when the chips are down, and this Saturday evening fixture ahead of Giornata 3 was a classic example. The crowd which greeted Serie B favourites Reggina was massive. Chaos in the visitors box following De Rossi's free kick moments before the break concluded with Panucci's tap in on the line, indeed, were it not for the defender's uncanny timing in the 6 yard box, Roma would have struggled. Moody young gun Alberto Aquilani blasted a fierce drive into the top corner from 20 metres and Simone Perrotta was first to react in the final minute when Campagnolo could only block Totti's free kick into his goalward lunge. Chances for the Reggio Calabrian minnows were not exactly flowing thick and fast, but they had a couple very early on through a Vigiani volley that flew just wide of the post after a Di Gennaro corner had skimmed the bar. Brighi and then Aquilani fired over and Barretto's deflected free kick bounced past the post with Doni moving very late. Campagnolo blocked a fierce Panucci header from Taddei's corner and was further tested by Vucinic, who flicked his shot up towards the corner when flat out on the deck after an unseemly tangle with Valdez. Spalletti must build on the momentum of this win with a repeat at Genoa to propel his pretenders back into contention, however, in the absence of Mexes and Juan, the likelihood of either Loria or Cassetti at centre back is no substitute for the level of security proffered by Matteo Ferrari last season. The French-Algerian defender will take the field for Il Grifone against Roma in Giornata 4 on Wednesday. Problems thus far have stemmed from misfit defensive pairings, balance there is sorely needed before the season gets into full swing.

REGGINA: Campagnolo, Lanzaro, Cirillo, Valdez, Costa, Vigiani (subbed: Ceravolo 62), Carmona, Barreto, Barillŕ (subbed: Hallfredsson 84), Di Gennaro (subbed: Brienza 46), Corradi

Transylvania is the not the first thing that springs to mind on Champions League nights in Italy but CFR 1907 Cluj transformed Matchday 1 into the stuff of nightmares for Roma. Much has been made of their perilous inaction before the transfer window closed and thus far, the trio of 'big' signings have been less than inspirational. They were brought in to carry the Giallorossi beyond the Champions League Quarter Final stage which has seen Roma play at peak level in the last couple of seasons, but it is necessary to report that Riise and Baptista headlined this latest horror show with an abysmal performance apiece. Menez was benched and he must have been thankful to sit this one out. No Mexes or Juan meant a minor reshuffle at the back but nothing out of the ordinary for Spalletti who also had to compensate for injuries to Perrotta and Pizarro with Max Tonetto and Alberto Aquilani. The silly season started early when CFR 1907 Cluj were labelled 'minnows' as soon as Group A was confirmed, a wildy inaccurate, off-the-cuff remark by on-the-fly journalists who are paid to disseminate useless and inaccurate information on behalf of significant media channels. CFR 1907 Cluj are the current holders of Liga I Frutti Fresh and the Cupa României but short on European experience, just a creditable run in the UEFA Intertoto Cup 3 years ago to their name which took them to the Final of that competition where they lost out to Racing Club de Lens. Maurizio Trombetta took over from Ioan Andone a fortnight ago after a sluggish start in Liga I, flitting between 8th. and 11th. place just no good for the Champions and the Italian coach with bags of experience here albeit with smaller clubs, won his first match in charge 2-1 away at CF Gloria 1922 prior to pulling this absorbing win out of the hat. Trombetta's 4-3-3 formation boasted a heavy overseas contingent; 3 Portuguese, 4 South Americans and Yssouf Koné from Burkina Faso more than enough to undo Roma who were played off their own park. But it all started so promisingly for the Giallorossi, who set about the visitors with verve and vigour culminating in Panucci's near post poach moments after Vucinic had smacked a shot against the frame of the goal. Determination by De Rossi made the defender's job easy, his pinpoint cross from wide right after battling through Juan Culio a regulation score for the veteran. So what happened? Cassetti's awful clearing header teed up Culio to slam a dipping volley beyond Doni from 15 yards, a minor miracle when one considers that the diminutive Argentine has scored less than 5 goals in more than 6 seasons as a professional footballer. His earlier equalizing strike on 26 minutes no more than a toe bung smacked into the corner which neither Cassetti nor Panucci could get in the way of after Trica's return pass had lost Taddei. Marco Cassetti apart, no real defensive howlers to pick out but rank indecision right across the board is worrisome. It is worth noting that Cluj were able to get creative in wide open spaces left by the Roman full backs who habitually move upfield in tandem. Kudos for Trombetta for working that one out. Loria replaced Panucci at centre back after the break but the former Siena star is way out of his depth in Rome. Totti was hauled on for John Arne Riise after an error-strewn 52 minutes, the ex-Dipper played one of the worst games of his career. Jeremy Menez was kitted up and ready to add some bite to the by now blunt and defunct attacking threat of Baptista and Vucinic, only for L'Aeroplanino to jog on instead. Chaos on the field and off it as Totti toiled away for 40 minutes with his gammy knee. Vucinic clattered an early shot against the post from Aquilani's high pass through the middle but former Tractor Boy Sixto Peralta came closer, bruising the bar with a powerful header from Tony's cross on 71 minutes. Muresan too was unlucky, he swept a free kick just shy of the post from 30 yards. Desperate moves by Spalletti forced Vucinic and Baptista into wide midfield roles where they both faded badly. Rosella Sensi will be breathing down Spalletti's neck unless results improve dramatically. On this showing, Tricâ, Koné, Dani, Dubarbier and Juan Culio all have the pace and firepower to finish above Roma and Bordeaux and perhaps even challenge Chelsea at the top of Group A. Spalletti needs to get his act together in France and his team must stop believing their own hype, or this year's UEFA Champions League campaign could well be reduced to an ignominious stint in UEFA Cup hell, which is perhaps where they all belong.

Lazio President Claudio Lotito made over 9,000 season tickets available in the Curva Nord for just €5, all of which were snapped up by religiously tight-fisted Italians in next to no time. Despite this act of generosity, the man who has stabilized Lazio's debt over the last few years was still fearfully abused long before the teams made their entrance. Lotito engineered some excellent signings over the Summer and would be respected at any other club, but the ingrates who congregate in the Curva Nord to play out their squalid lives don't know the meaning of the word. They paraded banners in memory of dearly departed friends and family but in the same vein find it acceptable to issue death threats to the family of the man who has rebuilt their club. Pathetic. They levelled abuse his way today, the first home game of the season, and continue to barrack their own black players. It is pleasing to note that most Lazio supporters in the Distinti Est and Tribuna do their best to shout down whatever it is the Curva Nord are harping on about. 4-3-1-2 was the way forward after a resounding 4-1 win in Giornata 1 against lowly Cagliari. Home league debuts against Doria for Stephan Lichtsteiner, Brocchi and Mauro Zárate who took just 7 minutes to whip a stupendous strike into the extreme top corner after skinning Bottinelli and leaving both Sammarco and Padalino in his wake. Mauri miskicked Kolarov's deep centre at the far post, Juan Pablo Carrizo blocked a dipping Padalino volley and Rozehnal just managed to clear Cassano's deft touch across the 6 yard box ahead of the onrushing Gennaro Delvecchio. Gastaldello elbowed Pandev off the ball but got away with it before the Macedonian hitman connected with Brocchi's raking pass, brushed past Bottinelli and fired a low volley through Mirante for 2-0. Stephan Lichtsteiner shackled Cassano well and while Ledesma and Meghni were well under par, Cristian Brocchi more than made up for their failings and is looking good ahead of his rather premature return to Milan. Emilson Cribari will replace Rozehnal when fit, the Czech defender never fails to disappoint but the question now is all about South American sensation Mauro Zárate. Can he live up to the burden of expectation after 3 goals in 2 Serie A appearances?

SAMPDORIA: Mirante, Lucchini, Gastaldello, Bottinelli, Padalino (subbed: Stankevicius 54), Franceschini, Palombo, Sammarco (subbed: Fornaroli 76), Pieri, Delvecchio (subbed: Bonazzoli 61), Cassano

Carrizo, Lichtsteiner, Siviglia, Rozehnal, Kolarov, Brocchi (subbed: De Silvestri 81), Ledesma, Meghni (subbed: Manfredini 62), Mauri, Zárate (subbed: Foggia 74), Pandev

Benevento stormed to promotion from Serie C2/C last season and this draw could have caught Lazio cold, but unlike the 3,000 away fans who turned up, Le Streghette did not and Lazio were never really tested. When Serie A teams have to interrupt pre-season training for an early appointment in the Coppa Italia, the oft-maligned phrase 'proverbial banana skin' really does come into play, borne out by the fact that Chievo, Lecce and Palermo were eliminated by Padova, Salernitana and Ravenna respectively this time around. All 5 Lazio goals were despatched with dispiriting ease and barely raised a cheer on merit. Cattaneo put the skids under his own team as early as the 8th. minute by touching a deflected Mourad Meghni centre past Gori who seemed prone to panic whenever the ball winged it's way towards his gloves. Meghni's speculative and deflected drive bobbled in 4 minutes later. Sebastian Andres Bueno pulled a goal back to make it 2-1 and Benevento contrived to hit the post. Christian Manfredini stooped and craned to send a header crashing into the net, restoring the 2 goal advantage and Pandev's brace sealed an easy win. Matuzalem, Foggia and Manfredini impressed while Stephen Makinwa spent most of the game losing possession. Former Lazio man Felice Evacuo lasted 18 minutes. The Aquilotti play Atalanta at home on October 1st. in Round 4.

BENEVENTO: Gori, Cattaneo, Ferraro, Ignoffo, Colombini, Palermo, Cejas, De Liguori, Imbriani (subbed: Statella 51), Evacuo (subbed: Bueno 13), Castaldo (subbed: Clemente 72)

The Vinicio Fioranelli group which includes England's Franco Baldini are hours away from buying 67% of AS Roma from Sensi's Italpetrol for c. Ł260 million. Ł40 million will be earmarked for new players, top of the shopping list being Galacticos striker Higuain (21) and Wesley Sneijder (25). Stefano Guberti (24) has already arrived from Bari for Ł3 million, payable over four years. Julio Baptista has been told that he is free to go and De Rossi is being courted by Barcelona. The much hyped talent drain from Serie A to any other league outside Italy seems to be a local affliction; loyalty at both Milan clubs counts for nought it seems while Fiorentina and Juventus are consolidating in earnest. With Carlo Ancelotti bedding in nicely at Chelsea and Ferrara moving on up in the aftermath of Claudio Ranieri's harsh sacking by Juventus, Spalletti will stay at Roma. Having promised so much in his debut season, just two Coppa Italia trophies have been won in the intervening four years. Spalletti's reliance on 4-2-3-1 variants will come under intense scrutiny between now and 2011.

Davide Ballardini (45) is the new Lazio coach. He will earn Ł600k a year until 2011 with an option to extend to 2012. He is the only coach to have earned the respect of Palermo owner and chairman Maurizio Zamparini in recent years. Zamparini has a passion for sacking managers in the heat of the moment. Napoli want Pandev, Fiorentina are chasing De Silvestri in a possible cash plus Dario Dainelli deal and Inter like the look of Aleksandar Kolarov. Rome born defender Emiliano Moretti (28) of Valencia CF who is a former Lodigiani (Cisco Roma) player, wide midfielder Ederson (23) of Olympique Lyonnais, Troyes loan striker Gomis and Portuguese winger Eliseu (25) of Málaga CF are the first names out of the transfer rumours hat. The curious 'bringing Nedved out of retirement to revive Lazio' story is building and Fabrizio 'Silver Fox' Ravanelli is contemplating a new dawn on the Primavera bench. Zárate is now contracted to comply with Claudio Lotito's demands until at least 2013. Albano Bizzarri (31) joined Lazio from Catania on June 10th., he will replace compatriot keeper Carrizo.

Information about transfers at Roma and Lazio is important in so far as how this site is managed. Our customers want to know who it is they are watching and where they played their football before arriving in or returning to Rome. Stars or substitutes, they're all here in our Calcio Mercato and you can check out how they perform on the pitch in our Live Match Reports. We don't just highlight the big names, everyone knows about Totti, but what about the squad players at Roma and Lazio?
cerci of roma pipolo of roma alvarez of roma virga of roma
mutarelli of bologna inzaghi of lazio berni of salernitana faraoni of lazio
From left to right (first row above) we have Alessio Cerci (21) who will spend this season on loan in Bergamo with Atalanta. Next up Pietro Pipolo (22) from Marino which lies just south of Rome, Pipolo is a reserve keeper for the Giallorossi. Edgar Álvarez (28) has been given far few opportunities by Roma since his arrival in 2005, the Honduran midfielder has endured loan spells at Messina (now in Serie D) and more recently Livorno. Valerio Virga (22) has gone to Triestina on loan, the team against whom he scored his only goal for Roma in the Coppa Italia Last 16 on November 29th. 2006. Midfielder Virga is a former youth academy player and has come through the ranks.
The current Biancocelesti squad includes Mutarelli, Inzaghi and Berni (left to right, second row above) who are now surplus to requirements and frozen out after securing loan deals or a transfer away from Rome which were stalled by Claudio Lotito on transfer deadline day (September 1st.), to keep them floating in Lazio limbo. Mutarelli took Lotito to court and won't play for the blue half of the city again. Marco Davide Faraoni (17) from Bracciano was the youngest player in Lazio's Primavera before his promotion to the Prima Squadra.
January 2009 / No new names at Lazio, just five notable departees. Curva Nord favourite Fabio Firmani has been loaned out to UAE's Al Wasl SC. Here's hoping we're not waving Dubai to a legend. Massimo Mutarelli has transferred to Bologna with Belleri in tow, keeper Berni joins Serie B strugglers Salernitana on loan and Stephen Makinwa heads for Verona to try and keep Chievo in A. Marco Motta of Udinese has been drafted into Roma's UEFA Champions League squad at the expense of Panucci who is at loggerheads with everyone and demanding everything. Adrian Pit is back from his loan spell at Pisa but don't expect the Romanian midfield man to furrow Spalletti's distinguished brows anytime soon. Souleymane Diamoutene and David Sugar have landed on loan from Lecce and Bellinzona respectively. Valerio Virga has parted company with Triestina for Novara. Leandro Greco and Stefano Okaka Chuka have been shipped out to B sides for the rest of the season. Nowhere near enough inbound transfer activity to make good Roma's UEFA Champions League Final dream. Riise, Loria, Baptista and Menez have been mediocre at best. Nowhere near acceptable market diligence for the ninth highest earning football club in the World, with an estimated revenue of €175 million last season / updated: February 2009

Lifelong fans of both AS Roma and SS Lazio is where it's at and we talk to a couple of local lads about how it is on the terraces and how it should be on the pitch. Luca Gambescia returns to the fray from his seat in the Curva Sud, a few rows below Boys Roma Ultras. He asks why the Giallorossi spent so much time dithering when the transfer market was open, contributing to their inauspicious start to the season. Pierluigi Calabretta is also back and will cast his experienced eye over all things Lazio from a season spent in the Tribuna Tevere at the end of May / relevancy: official lazio tickets, official roma tickets

FORZA GRANDE ROMA!!!

A very mixed bag for the oldest club in Rome. It was the year of Maurito, the signing of Mauro Zárate. The talent from Haedo near Buenos Aires had a seismic effect on both Serie A and the hearts of Lazio fans. Unswervingly fleet of foot, the already collectable series of incredible goals and valuable assists meted out to opponents by the diminutive Argentine star sealed a season to remember, which saw Lazio win their fifth Italian Cup in it's Centenary year.
At the same time, domestic form in Serie A was somewhat disappointing with Lazio finishing a mediocre tenth place in the table after mixing it with Inter and Juventus at the top for the first two months. Unpredictable defeats against weaker teams punctuated with some outstanding wins became the hallmark of a topsy turvy campaign. Lazio brushed Roma aside in a flamboyant 4-2 derby triumph, which killed off any slim chance their rivals had of competing in the Champions League next season.
In the Coppa Italia, Lazio went all the way this time after losing to Inter in last season's Semi-Final. Victorious in the San Siro against AC Milan and in Turin against Juventus FC, they were a force to be reckoned with come the Rome Final. A tight contest against Sampdoria ended 1-1 and Lazio won the penalty shoot out 6-5. It was Muslera's night with two strong saves despite Tommaso Rocchi's flirtation with the post. Seventy thousand fans packed the Stadio Olimpico after which Laziali celebrated long into the Roman night.

The season saw a couple of young players come to the fore. Swiss right back Stefan Lichtsteiner and Aleksandar Kolarov, the powerful but at times wayward left back from Serbia impressed. Goran Pandev showed his usual class and served up fifteen vital goals. Captain Cristian Ledesma and erstwhile recovery Francelino Matuzalem demonstrated searing pace, high stamina and great geometry in midfield. Pasquale Foggia showed passion, fight and valour in often difficult circumstances to get my vote as Player of the Year. Nando Muslera made a stunning comeback to win back his place as first choice keeper from Juan Pablo Carrizo. Young gun attacker Ettore Mendicino and midfielder Riccardo Perpetuini from the Primavera squad were introduced and will feature more prominently next season.
