You cannot take bottles of water or cans of drink into the Stadio Olimpico, but once you're in vendors sell refreshments and assorted snacks in the aisles while ground level and stairwell kiosks serve up beer @ €4 per bottle, cans of soft drink for €3, hot dogs, pizzettas and sandwiches @ €4 a piece, assorted crisps, tuc and ritz biscuits @ €3 per box, ice cream @ €3, espresso for €1 and water for €1,50. Shots of Borghetti (coffee liqueur) are sold outside the ground. Roma match programmes when available, if ever, cost €1 or are free. The de facto Lazio programme for most Serie A and TIM Cup matches is Voce della Nord, published by the Irriducibili and sold outside the Stadio Olimpico for €2 or less if you buy a few. We have never seen a Lazio programme for sale on a European night. Cittaceleste is the free newspaper which most fans use to sit on after a quick read. The Stadio Olimpico has been cleaned up at last with new seats and new toilets, built for the UEFA Champions League Final 2009. Italians make alot of noise which intensifies when they watch football, their clatter generates real atmosphere / updated: March 2010 |

Football in Rome is as passionate as it is political. The blue half of the city was traditionally 'right wing' but these days you will find as much right as left in either Curva of either team. Italy is a police state and there are as many millions of communists as there are fascists who live well here, which has nothing to do with football. Some supporters of Roma and Lazio consider it hip to be hooligan. English lads have been targeted on European nights by groups of Roma Ultras who stab fans of the clubs whose hooligan element they aspire to emulate. The 'English disease' per se, however, is beyond all of them. Rome's Ultras, while not the most volatile on the peninsula, co-ordinate colourful and creative support in their respective Curvas. The anglicisation of what they get up to on the terraces makes every game in Rome worth seeing - something always kicks off / updated: August 2009 |

If you carry a bag into the Stadio Olimpico, a Carabiniere will ask you to open it for inspection. All types of photographic equipment are permitted. To reach the Stadio, take Metro Linea A (Battistini-Anagnina) to Ottaviano/S. Pietro station and then board the number 32 bus that passes close by. Alternatively you can take the one and only tram from Piazza Flaminio (Stazione Flaminio on Metro Linea A) to Piazza Antonio Mancini, then walk across the river (Ponte Duca D'Aosta) to the Stadio Olimpico. If you are staying in town, take the 910 bus from Piazza dei Cinquecento (in front of Termini station) to Piazza Antonio Mancini as above. You will be asked to show your passport at the perimeter gates by stewards. Turnstiles have been installed behind every main gate further in. You must scan your ticket to pass through. If you look even remotely English, the probability of being frisked by security is approximately 100%. After the series of checks you will be allowed to make your way to your seat / updated: August 2009 |

ROMA finished in sixth place after a woeful domestic campaign but were unfortunate to lose out on penalties at home to Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League Last 16. The Giallorossi put themselves under huge pressure in Europe from the off after a nightmare start, capitulating to CFR 1907 Cluj midfielder Draculio on September 16th, Matchday 1. The South American Romanians have never looked back, winning the Cupa României again and riding high in their domestic league. 3-1 in Rome v Chelsea the only highlight of the competition and entire season for Spalletti, a struggle compounded by the signing in June of donkey defender Simone Loria, hit and miss strikers Menez and Baptista, indifferent form and justifiably furious supporters who boycotted their Curva on more than one occasion. Roma were booted out of the TIM Cup by the team they defeated in two previous finals, and just when Romanisti thought that things couldn't deteriorate any further, they did. LAZIO went on to win the trophy. Franco Sensi died on August 17th. and his daughter, AS Roma General Manager (President) Rosella has been bullied into selling ever since to reduce the massive Italpetrol debt, at least in part. Matteo Brighi was a rock for Roma, Panucci scored some crucial face-saving goals before falling out with everyone and eventually leaving for Parma. Both Vucinic and Mexes were courted by Premiership giants but stay in the capital. The only worthwhile acquisition was young Udinese defender Marco Motta (23) in February. Roma have sold the silky midfield skills of local boy Alberto Aquilani to Liverpool to ease their considerable financial troubles. He is unlikely to be the only sacrificial lamb, more will follow. Spalletti is already guiding his team through the UEFA Europa League minefield; KAA Gent were thrashed 10-2 on aggregate in the 3rd. Qualifying Round, now MFK Košice of Slovakia stand between Roma and the Group stage proper. |

The annual 'Pandev ready to sign for Bayern Munich' column was inked and ready to print within hours of season's end. So little to say of another Lazio campaign? Perhaps, but significant transfer activity was afoot nonetheless. The co-ownership deal struck with Al-Sadd for Mauro Zárate was shrewd business by Lotito, who knew just how good the burgeoning Argentine striker was certain to become. Lazio's 'difficult' President further secured the services of Brazilian midfielder Matuzalém, Swiss right back Stephan Lichtsteiner and defensive midfielder Cristian Brocchi from Milan. The return of Pasquale Foggia from Cagliari was popular and capped a reasonably satisfying dabble in the transfer market. Valon Behrami to Zola's West Ham United the only departee of real note. Marco Ballotta switched to Modena to occupy the vacant position of General Manager (he resigned after 35 days), and Igli Tare swapped his shirt for a suit and what is now known as the post of 'Technical Area Director'. Make what you will of that job description, as we're sure it was managerial under Delio Rossi. Lazio finished up in tenth place after leading Serie A in September, spurred on by Zárate's goals and real conviction. Patchy home performances, particularly after the Winter Break, and heavy defeats at home to Cagliari (1-4) then Chievo (0-3), were papered over by a spirited 4-2 derby win on April 11th. and TIM Cup glory in May. Victories at Milan and Juventus paved the way to winning the Final 6-5 (1-1) on penalties against Walter Mazzari's Sampdoria in Rome, his penultimate game in charge. A UEFA Europa League place just about enough to salvage a real hit and miss domestic campaign. |

The Gabriele Sandri case concluded in the most predictable manner imaginable. Spaccarotella was let off lightly with a deeply disturbing six year jail sentence. Lazio stronghold Piazza Vescovio, a middle class suburb due north of the city centre which had been the nerve centre for Sandri's many friends, family and supporters ever since his killing in November 2007, exploded into violence when news of the derisory sentence was made public. Spaccarotella was never going to be found guilty of murder, Italy is controlled by numerous corruptible police forces and those who wear one of the many uniforms in vogue can do what is their wont to whoever they choose. Sandri was taken out by the system he grew up in. The more images of Gabriele in the Curva Nord the better, the more graffiti in the city bearing his name the better, so no one will ever forget the fact that Italy is fully supportive of state sanctioned violence, murder and corruption. Luigi Spaccarotella's six years inside will be reduced to two or three for good behaviour, but he'll need police protection for the rest of his life wherever he hides out. Spaccarotella has described himself as 'a cretin, not a Rambo'. How about cold-blooded killer? |

After Sampdoria, and the Lazio - Inter 'blame everyone but ourselves scenario' used by Roma and their friends to hide from the spectre of Pazzini, this was always going to be hugely relevant if Inter dropped points at home to Chievo, or quite irrelevant if they won bar end of season wheel the kids out at the end and smile for the cameras, wave alot etc. Waiting for a team as good as Inter to drop points with two games to play before a European Final was wishful thinking at best, however, Chievo Verona pulled them back to 4-3 in Milan to keep Romanisti interested, but not hooked on the scoreboard. Marco Motta replaced Cassetti at right back and Vucinic was benched while for Cagliari, Cossu won a ban reduction to start. Marchetti denied Totti, Toni and Menez then watched Motta's rocket with no backlift rattle his post from 25 metres, before he made way for substitute keeper and former Roma player Lupatelli at half time. Juan fouled Nainggolan for a penalty (not given, as ever) and Jeda was unable to net the loose ball. Matri ran through but his tame side footed swat was easy pickings for Julio Sergio. Rodrigo Taddei replaced a poor Toni before Lupatelli stuck a glove out to thwart Totti's angled drive. Roma went behind with a little over fifteen minutes remaining, when second half substitute Lazzari belted a 30 yard free kick beyond Julio Sergio, so handing Totti the chance to redeem himself after 'Assault on Balotelli'. His five minute brace won it (shot across the face and into the corner; penalty, clear ball to hand, Riise) after Roma had been denied by post and bar three times when Chievo were ahead, leaving fans bemoaning their ill luck for most of the afternoon. The introduction of Cerci for Motta stretched Cagliari, who conceded twice barely two minutes later. Roma must win in Verona, Inter must drop points in Siena who are already relegated. Unlikely.

Devastated Romanisti loitered around looking for trouble after this hammer blow result, all but ending hopes of a perhaps deserved Scudetto. Sampdoria arrived under pressure to regain fourth place after Palermo's 3-1 win against Milan, and showed fierce determination matched only by the tactical brilliance of their manager, Luigi Del Neri. Riise looked out of sorts in the derby and was at fault for both goals. While Pazzini is a striker of unerring quality, who took the two difficult chances which came his way with great skill, Ranieri ought to have seen it coming. Those of us who follow football in the capital have regarded Riise's recent poor form as a new and unwanted achilles heel, making it's presence felt at exactly the wrong time. The popular Norwegian was always going to be a liability in a game of this magnitude, and so it proved. A minute's silence for Sara Panuccio and Francesca Colonnello, who were killed by falling rocks while on a school trip to Ventotene, was disrespected by Romanisti in the Curva Nord. No one expected anything less of them. Menez was preferred to the Totti, Toni, Vucinic trident and provided the early threat, forcing Storari into a near post scramble from Totti's assist. Juan's bicycle kick from a Pizarro lob into the box landed well wide before Roma went ahead after quarter of an hour. Vucinic combined with Totti down the left flank and flashed a low cross past Zauri for his captain to nick a left foot shot into the bottom corner. Totti almost doubled the lead when Vucinic's reverse pass exposed Storari, only for his effort to cannon back off the post. Burdisso was at full stretch to block Cassano's strike from close range and Storari parried a Menez drive. Totti's attempt to net the rebound bounced wide, the last real chance to extend the lead before the interval. The sight of a fired up Mirko Vucinic taking his considerable frustration out on Simone Perrotta before firing across Storari in anger worried everyone in the stands, and perhaps gave Sampdoria the green light to push on and take over proceedings. Roma were in front but seemed to be buckling under the pressure to keep it that way. An open second half of decent chances for both teams ensued but it was all about Pazzo. He dropped a big header past Julio Sergio with Riise nowhere, then beat the Norwegian to Daniele Mannini's cross and slid his shot into the corner. At the inquest, Sensi obsessed about a minor ball to hand incident between Vucinic and Riise, by which time she was a desperate woman clutching at straws, knowing full well that Roma's smouldering chances of winning the Scudetto had been reduced to an ashen faced Ranieri. Cassano was at his impetuous, imperious best but only Pazzo and Palombo will be on the plane to South Africa to represent a very strong Sampdoria side, fully deserving of UCL football next season.

Wrongly hyped as the match which stood between Roma and the Scudetto, when in reality, in form Sampdoria, a tricky trip to Parma, Daniele Conti's Cagliari and lastly Chievo (Sergio Pellissier has been known to score), all formidable opposition, wait in the wings for Ranieri's hopefuls. Volcanic ash grounded flights across North Europe and our customers through turnstiles quota was never going to reach double figures, as airport terminals emptied faster than the Curva Nord at the end of this most absorbing Rome derby. While other ticket websites continue their 'sorry, no refunds' stance ('act of god' etc.), and seem to be hell bent on making cash from ash, we are offering 100% face value refunds plus free tickets for almost any Serie A or UEFA Champions League match next season. Very tense before this one. 300 Lazio lads made an early start, running towards blocks in the Tevere Sud for the popular playground hit 'Scappa (Coniglio Giallorosso)', which looks alot like hoodies hiding knives running at and scattering Romanisti (hiding knives), although on this occasion the Guardia di Finanza pulled the plug on jollities before anyone came to harm. Violence did however get out of hand outside the Olimpico after the match. The Curva Sud got their display horribly wrong, not once, not even twice. They released the extended version of how to embarrass your local football team in front of watching millions when their own handiwork played up at the crucial moment. Always wave flags, light flares (but never throw them), and prime paper bombs (idem). Banners big enough to cover Moonbase Alpha. Only if you're really, really sure.
Lazio bossed the entire first half despite having to replace Stendardo with Biava after seven minutes. Totti ballooned over and Ledesma was wayward after a quick 1-2 with Rocchi from his own corner. Stefan Lichtsteiner had the beating of Riise, and it was no real surprise when Ledesma caught Burdisso with a lofted pass for Rocchi to run on to and nurdle into the net. Little else to debate before the tea break bar an outrageous decision to play on when Burdisso felled Rocchi for a surefire penalty. Giallorossi banner woes rolled on and eventually out with a colossal caricature of what looked like Franco Sensi in drag. The general idea seems to have been a convoluted message about thumbs directed at Lazio fans. Wrong club. Totti and DDR were anonymous so Ranieri cut to the chase and gambled on Menez and Taddei straight after the break, an enormous risk as both players are prone to disappearing acts, but this time they turned it around for Roma inside 20 minutes. Lazio lost their home derby by missing the chance to go 2-0 up from the penalty spot. Alex Kolarov's heavy skip over the ball tricked Marco Cassetti who tripped the wantaway defender on the very edge of the outside of the line. Kolarov missed a crucial spot kick v Bari, this time it was Floccari. Taddei made a meal of Kolarov's clip eight minutes later and Vucinic lashed the penalty past Muslera. A magnificent slalom by Rocchi from deep inside his own half ended with a last ditch block tackle by Cassetti as the Lazio man was ready to pull the trigger. Menez was doing his best impression of Amantino Mancini and won the free kick from which Lazio never recovered. Whatever Radu and Brocchi were doing, we'd love to know. Horrible, awful, unforgivable set piece defending. Vuci put heart and soul into his shot and he really didn't need to. The most important Rome derby ever played, thrown away. Floccari missed a penalty in front of 20,000 Laziali. Forgiven. It's alot easier to stand in a wall and not play dodgems when the whistle blows. Zárate came on for 4-3-3, played for himself, but still gave Roma plenty to think about with strong runs into the box and inviting crosses for Rocchi and Cruz. Riise was struggling near the end and when he loses his composure, he loses a good deal of pace too. If Claudio Ranieri insists on risking the nervy Norwegian against Sampdoria, it may cost Roma the Scudetto.
Toni's antagonistic lunge at Cristian Ledesma worked well. The Lazio man retaliated against Menez minutes later and was sent off for dissent. Inevitably, tempers snapped at the whistle. Stefan Radu was one second away from punching Perrotta to the ground then went for Julio Sergio, Mexes and Totti, after which a full scale riot was narrowly averted by security. Most, if not all players and substitutes were involved in one way or another. Francesco Totti was right in there feigning bitch slaps. Interesting in that he contributed nothing to the game whatsoever before being substituted at half time. Much has been made of his thumbs down to the Curva Sud. Not incitement, he has every right to show his own fans where he wants Lazio to go, nor anything to do with Pollice Verso. Totti just can't keep his thumbs to himself these days and at day's end, anything is better than watching him partake in honour of Ilary Blasi. So, a somewhat fortuitous derby double for AS Roma who are just four wins away from landing their fourth Scudetto. Understood? Next up Luigi Del Neri and Doria (H), Pazzo, Cassano etc.

Favourites to go down with a horrible fixture list in front of them, Atalanta deserved at least a point, and were denied by the brilliance of one keeper and the buttery fingers of their own. Roma were so bad and expectation so high after the 2-2 draw in Florence between Fiorentina and Inter, Giornata 33 was difficult viewing at times. Beset with nerves and incapable of stringing together a pair of decent passes for 20 long minutes around the hour mark, the capital challenge for Scudetto honours #4 was hanging by the thinnest of threads right up until the final whistle. No Juan for Roma, so Mexes made his return and surprised everyone by showing Burdisso and Riise how to defend against man mountain strikers like Simone Tiribocchi, Lazio youth star and lumbering old school Serie A hitman if ever there was one. Atalanta started well, only Totti's 30 yard flay wide of the post and Burdisso's rake at Consigli from a messy corner worthy of mention, before Vucinic's drive was spilled over the line. Marco Cassetti doubled home advantage with a cool flashed header into the net from Totti's whipped centre, with Daniele Capelli all at sea. John Arne Riise had a shocker, it was his reckless clearance which led to Tiribocchi's precise finish into the corner. The no-nonsense, burly striker terrorized the Roman defence while mercurial wing play from Valdes, who was better than absolutely sensational for the entire second half, threatened to sink Roma without trace. Burdisso and Riise were run ragged by Ferreira Pinto, architect of similar mayhem down the opposite flank. Only Luca Toni got close to Consigli after the break with a couple of missed half chances. Lazio will be desperate to get at their rivals on Sunday, who looked vulnerable at the back all afternoon, but you never know which Roma will turn up on derby day. Atalanta Ultras were targeted by CASMS, so Ranieri's rise to the summit of Serie A was unopposed on terraces occupied by a partisan crowd of 60,000.

Hellish ticketing conditions overshadowed this, the latest Ranieri - Mourinho head to head which in the end, pushed Roma towards pole position for Scudetto honours. 450,000 fans could not get seats, and those who did make it through the turnstiles can count themselves very lucky indeed, in particular those who bought tickets from us for less than £50 as they were selling for £800 before kick off. Not since 2001 had the Giallorossi beaten Inter at home in the league, but in their best form for many years under Ranieri, whose tinkering has taken Roma to the edge of greatness, they braved the predictably thuggish tactics we have come to expect from Inter under Maureen (seven yellow cards, no less). Menez stood in for Totti and Simone Perrotta started. Julio Cesar fumbled Burdisso's straightforward header from David Pizarro's deep free kick, and Daniele De Rossi got in front of Samuel to score after quarter of an hour in an electric atmosphere. Vucinic went very close with a brace of long rangers, Riise's piledriver nicked the post, Samuel's header hit the bar and Lucio fired just wide before half time. Julio Sergio was at full stretch to keep out a Diego Milito snapshot and Sneijder's sharp curler, while Toni's flicked header flew inches over the bar. Great work by Sneijder to set up Milito's equalizer but his initial pass played both Pandev and Milito offside. Toni controlled Rodrigo Taddei's mishit from a poor Lucio clearance, swivelled and found the corner with time to spare. Brighi earned a clear penalty from Julio Cesar and was booked for simulation, substitute Chivu stamped on Toni and Totti's late cameo calmed Roma with some sublime touches. Milito's thunderous shot which cracked the upright was the last action of a truly great match. One point the difference now and Scudetto fever is catching in the capital.

The unlikeliest of lads won it to secure six crucial points for Lazio in four days. Forrest Gump thumped Mauri's cross past Curci after six minutes and Cruz, who jogged on to a chorus of boos, scored immediately to silence the imbeciles who question his commitment. The Tuscan minnows arrived on form which was widely reported as being good enough to avoid the drop, but a poor record against Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico seemed to weigh heavily on their minds. For thirty minutes Siena were outplayed. Rocchi, Brocchi, Mauri and Ledesma were handed far too much space around the box, and Curci did well to parry shots from Rocchi and Zárate. Curci and Rosi, players co-owned by Roma and Siena, were in defiant mood which infuriated the crowd. Aleandro Rosi's aggression culminated in a brief sparring match with Kolarov, and yellow cards were awarded to each. Only Larrondo troubled Nando Muslera in the second half, and even then only sparingly, but he had the beating of Stendardo. Cruz's bicycle kick over Curci was decisive. Mauri, who has weathered the storm, is getting better and better with every game. His chipped effort on goal from the D clipped the crossbar. It is sad to report that small groups of former Lazio Ultras who long since decamped from the divided Curva Nord into the Distinti Sud Est, are vociferous in their support but occasionally racist too, whenever a black opponent plays well. Wherever Lazio land come May, be it Serie A or elsewhere, is completely irrelevant for as long as racism divides their fans on the terraces. Italian Ultras envy our game and admire our football firms, their casual style and hooligan element. If only they'd adopt our more moderate football watching activities too like beer, banter and chat.

AS Roma News Roma threw away the Scudetto on April 25th. and there are no issues. Conspiracy theorists are still out in force pointing the finger of blame at Lazio, refereeing and now Siena, but at day's end, veteran defender Riise was simply not good enough to keep Pazzo at safe distance. Mourinho won his first Scudetto, Inter's fifth successive title amid scenes reminiscent of 2007-2008 when last day away days decided all. Three points in Verona not enough for Roma, but relegated Siena troubled Inter and for some 20 minutes, the Giallorossi were top and half an hour away from glory. Roma finished 2nd. in Serie A, were defeated 1-0 at home in the TIM Cup Final by Inter and by Panathinaikos (4-6) in the UEFA Europa League Round of 32. Lippi will take Italy to South Africa without Totti and Toni. Romanisti on World Cup duty include De Rossi (Italy), Burdisso (Argentina) and Juan (Brazil). Preliminary squads also include Doni and Julio Baptista (both Brazil).

SS Lazio News In the absence of Stefano Mauri and Kolarov, Thomas Hitzlsperger (remember him?) started and scored via a lucky deflection to set Lazio on their way to mid table respectability after a torrid domestic campaign. Flock curled a fine effort into the top corner and Brocchi's second in two made for a comforting finale. Money from the sale of Kolarov to Inter ought to solve the problem of goals, which no one could have predicted back in August. The issue of Mauro Zárate, ergo where to play him or who to sell him to and for how much, is anyone's guess. Great player, but not a team player. Julio Cruz (36) is heading for retirement. When Maxi Lopez reneged on his contract with Lazio and moved to Sinisa's Catania in January, some 12-15 goals were lost. Lazio finished 12th. in Serie A, were narrowly eliminated from the TIM Cup by Fiorentina (A) at the Quarter Final stage, and failed to qualify from Group G in the UEFA Europa League. Kolarov, Lichtsteiner and Nando Muslera will represent Serbia, Switzerland and Uruguay respectively in South Africa. Watch this space for Lazio news and gossip over the summer.

Information about transfers at Roma and Lazio is important in so far as how this site is managed. Our customers want to know who it is they are watching and where they played their football before arriving in or returning to Rome. Stars or substitutes, they're all here in our Calcio Mercato and you can check out how they perform on the pitch in our Live Match Reports. We don't just highlight the big names, everyone knows about Totti and De Rossi, but what about the Primavera at Roma and Lazio? Rome's top youth academy players are some of the best in Europe, and they'll be lighting up the Stadio Olimpico in the next few years if the path to Premiership cash taken by Kiko Macheda and Davide Petrucci is dealt with by the FIGC. |

ROMA / Back from a second successful loan season at FC Nantes, Ricardo Faty (top row, #1), dubbed 'the new Viera' is back in Rome for good this time and playing first team football. Defensive midfielder Alessandro Malomo (18), playmaker Andrea Bertolacci and keeper Valerio Frasca are almost ready to be loaned out before being thrown in at the deep end. Frasca's chance will come sooner however, AS Roma's keeping woes aren't improving. Much has been made of Roma youth team players being released only for them to go on and establish themselves not just at other clubs, but with the Azzurri too. Marco Amelia (Frascati) of Genoa and Daniele Galloppa (Tor dé Cenci) of Parma have flourished since leaving Trigoria, and the flogging of Alberto Aquilani (Monte Sacro) to Liverpool by Rosella Sensi will never be forgiven. Top youth stars Marco D'Alessandro and Alessandro Crescenzi are both at Grosseto in Serie B this season, to hone their skills for the Giallorossi cause. |
|
|
LAZIO / Midfield talent Manuel Ricci (19) from Anzio, born and bred Romans Luca Andrea Crescenzi (updating photo) and outstanding all-round sportsman Lorenzo Cinque (bottom row, #3) who rejected approaches from Chelsea and Barcelona last season, striking sensation Jacopo Sciamanna (bottom row, #4) from Viterbo and top rated defender Marco Davide Faraoni could all break into the Prima Squadra this term after excelling for Lazio's Primavera. Marco broke his leg at the end of September and will be out of action for six months. |
|
|
Five of Lazio's Prima Squadra whose photos appear to the right of here are 'dissidenti' - Google 'Lazio dissidents' and read about why Goran Pandev, Ledesma, Manfredini, Berni and to a lesser extent Stendardo are unlikely to figure for the Biancocelesti until after the January transfer window, and only then if Lotito fails again to sell them for as much money as he thinks they are worth (market value plus c. €3 million). |

For Lazio at least, the Winter break is the right time to call for a heads up, and this season it comes from the keyboard of Cathal Mullan, top dog on THE OFFSIDE. Cathal airs his views on January's transfer window and the appointment of Mister Edy Reja. For what it's worth, AS Roma too have a busy page on The Offside which attracts more English speaking Romanisti than the official club website. However, it's content is a bit of a circus so you'd be better off visiting AS Roma fan sites in Italian and picking up some of the language on the way, along the lines of 'Please don't stab me, i'm a Roma fan from England!' As ever, in order to be safe, only buy AS Roma tickets from here and contact us if you have any questions before you travel to Rome to watch football. Roma Ultras are the laughing stock of rival football firms, for slashing the buttocks of lone opposition supporters when they outnumber their victim by at least five to one. Most people would define this kind of behaviour as cowardly. Said cowards suffer from a debilitating inferiority complex in the presence of Englishmen in almost any situation. This can be attributed in part to their being Italian. Lazio Ultras have strong links with English clubs and are respected. |

For Laziali, the winter break couldn't come soon enough. With our club languishing in the lower regions of Serie A, not to mention the disarray that was setting in at Formello, it was hoped that the Christmas period would serve as much needed restbite. A successful mercato would also boost spirits as many sought new faces to breathe fresh air into our sails. However, the more pessimistic among us saw no solution coming from the likes of Claudio Lotito, Igli Tare and Davide Ballardini. Hence, the tifosi were split and the only certainty was that the biancocelesti faced a long and arduous trek to get back on track. However, immediate solace was found in the mercato as amidst all the rumours, that heavily desired Goran Pandev replacement was eventually acquired as Sergio Floccari breezed into Rome. What began as a zephyr soon evolved into a full blown storm as the Calabrian notched up a brace on debut against Livorno to give the management's ears a temporary noise hiatus. That all ended far too soon with a lack of action on the market and a rather abrupt ending to our Coppa Italia defence. Ballardini was edging ever closer to the exit door as reinforcements were putting one foot inside the entrance. In both the cases of Eyal Golasa and Sebastian Eguren, this proved to be somewhat literal as the former broke more rules than what was imaginable while the latter failed a medical; Lazio style. |

Nevertheless, the fresh legs we craved came in a 48-hour spell of madness. Thomas Hitzlsperger was the first to arrive and a German international in our ranks certainly lifted hopes. Then Giuseppe Biava, an experienced centre-back, if not the experienced centre back many were seeking and André Dias, one of the best Brazilian defenders in recent years. Optimism was restored but that didn't halt the ongoing protests against the president or mask the fact that the desperately unsuccessful Ballardini remained at the helm. A home defeat to perennial strugglers and direct relegation battlers Catania was the straw that broke the camel's back, or at the very least the twig that gave the president the hump. The breaking of that final straw symbolised the arrival of the one and only Edy Reja, the enigmatic ex-Napoli manager who was unsurprisingly keen to escape his duties in Split, Croatia and return to Italy with one of the giants. Ballardini immediately became nothing more than a bad memory, as Edoardo took his boys up to Parma and secured a comfortable 2-0 victory that made Davide's efforts look foolish by comparison. However, the mission is the same as it was when autumn met winter; salvation is a necessity. Relegation? Not an option. It remains to be seen if the “Reja Revolution” can revive this Roman recession. Forza Lazio! |
